Release Round-Up – 23rd May 2020

We’re still in the lockdown, and still reliant upon the streaming platforms to keep us entertained!

This week, Hotstar (UK) have release Irrfan Khan’s last film, Angrezi Medium. Also starring Radhika Madan, Deepak Dobriyal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Ranvir Shorey and Pankaj Tripathi, the film is worth watching just to see the magic that Irrfan created on screen – unfortunately the film leaves a lot to be desired, and could have been much better.

Zee5 have premiered a new original, Ghoomketu, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead. This, however, isn’t a new film – this is something that has been lying in the cans for the past 5 years, as can be seen from the various cameo appearances in the film. The film has received largely negative reviews, so can probably be missed.

Zee5 have also dropped new content, made during the lockdown. The comedy series, Bhalla Calling Bhalla, stars popular TV stars Gaurav Gera, Rajesh Kumar, and Lubna Salim.

Netflix have just the one new release this week – the quirky comedy What Are The Odds?, with Yashaswini Dayama and Karanvir Malhotra in the leads, with Abhay Deol supporting. This is an English language feature, which has had average reviews so far.

Amazon Prime haven’t had any new film releases this week, however, as usual, a lot of older content has been added to the site. Movies of note include Shyam Benegal’s Trikal, and the highly recommended Tamil movies Autograph and Rhythm.
